This is a special piece in my wildlife collection. Never has a painting meant so much to me and brought such mixed emotions while creating this piece. This is in memory of Cecil, a lion whose death shook the world. While working on this painting I felt love, anger, and sadness over not only over the death of Cecil, but for the thousands of other animals whose deaths are unwarranted. If any good can come from Cecil's death it will be to bring world wide awareness/attention to trophy killing for sport, poaching, and torture of wildlife. This is an issue that has personally touched me and I plan to continue to work to promote awareness for all animals that can not speak for themselves. About Johanna Lerwick
I am a self taught artist. Born and raised on a farm in central New York. Nature and wildlife has always been my passion in life. When I started painting in my mid 20's, I was living in the city and missed the country and wanted to capture the nature, wildlife and country scenes that I missed so much. I found that I could escape the city by creating on canvas the scenes of the country side, nature and wildlife by imagining myself being in that particular place as the brush flows across the canvas. Through the years I have tried different techniques in my paintings and learning continually to where I am today. I have lived and traveled throughout the United States and parts of the world and now reside in a small community of upstate...
