Standing on a rocky hillside this majestic bull elk bugles his warning to all challengers. Light shines on his antlers, face and the fur haloing his neck and shoulders. A fallen tree divides the foreground from the middle ground and seems to point to the elk. The rocks, grass and chunks of wood in the foreground gives added depth to the painting.

I stood watching and photographing this mighty bull elk protecting his herd as he rounded them up at the bottom of the hill into the woods. Then I heard another bull bugling towards the top of the hill and he came charging out of the woods and ran up bugling to defend his herd during the rut season.

It was such a joy for me to watch and photograph wild elk during the rut season. Early morning with my coffee cup in hand I would sit out on the front porch of the cabin and loved hearing the bugling elk, as the sound echoed across the hills.

I am a self taught artist. Born and raised on a farm in central New York. Nature and wildlife has always been my passion in life. When I started painting in my mid 20's, I was living in the city and missed the country and wanted to capture the nature, wildlife and country scenes that I missed so much. I found that I could escape the city by creating on canvas the scenes of the country side, nature and wildlife by imagining myself being in that particular place as the brush flows across the canvas.
